Eres el sol

Que brilla en mi ventana

Con tus rayos tan fuertes

Spots of sunshine

Fly over the page

The sun still shines

When there’s nothing to say

 

In the place where

Silence reigns supreme

I will still be with you

In the fragments of a dream

 

Swimming in shadows,

Sheltered by waves of peace

There you’ll find me

Scattered like autumn leaves

 

Under a tree in the shade

(Your eyes squinting to see

At what lies beneath)

Rolled out like parchment

 

My shapeless form stretches out, waiting

To be mapped by your hands

And coloured blue

In a sea of love that waits to kiss the land

The Morning Sorrows

Pain like a sunrise

Greets me every morning

I wake without you

By my side

 

Your smell still locked

Into the warmth of the bed

Anchors me to its depths

Drowning

 

The kisses of yesterday

Like bruised fruit

Bittersweet upon my neck

That once lingered now start to fade

 

As the morning sorrows

Sweetening song

Contained in the mouth of a bird

Ascends and falls unheard;

 

Didn’t you know that Man’s deadest hour

Is when Nature is most alive?

 

The Red morning sky

Reveals the shepherd’s warning:

Think more with your heart

And less with the mind

Else lovers fall away; stray and blind

Spanish Waves

There you are:

Sitting, uncurled

As Curiosity feeds

Your wide brown-eyed gaze

Did I un-ruffle you?

I got lost in your maze…

 

Those were the days:

Watching your Spanish waves

Unfurl upon the broad

Of your shoulders

A beach of dappled skin

Stretched out before me;

Sun-kissed with freckles

By the sun’s bright rays

And my own tender-meaning lips

 

Softer still, and still unravelling

My love for you like a lock of your hair

Wrapped around your finger twirling

Unties and unbinds itself from ‘truth’

Instead I tied myself to you…

 

My body: the work of your interpretation

Translating truth into fiction

And back again

Falling Too Soon

Red lights like warning signs

Give way

To the unholy passage

Of my mind

 

Remembering how

I tried to make you mine

As the blood orange moon

Climbed in time with your swoon

And you sank into slumber

 

Into the depths of my heart

That plunder

Now I cry: awaken, awaken

Lusty eyelids

And drown asunder!

 

The frost begins to creep

In at the blinds

As you fell, soft and pliable

Into my hands

 

A shooting star

Falling to the bed of the Earth

 

Come, come into my arms

Out of harm’s way

Awaken, awaken

And you shall see day.

La Petite Mort

Crossing familiar territory

One inch at a time

To feel your pulse throbbing

And the delicate nodules

Of your spine

 

Still supple

Still as smooth as a peach

Your wingspan opened up

But not out of reach

 

To fly the distance

We didn’t dare to cover

Instead chased love away

Looking to the affections of another

 

Lying together now:

Head to head, toe to toe, arm in arm

The storm is over

Time to embrace the calm

 

Breathe in my love and

Exhale the past

Our vows, they were broken

Before they had chance to last

 

Accept human fragility

And Time’s loss wasting away

Lay with me again

And we will die to live another day

Sun,

Shining in your most reverent sky

Now I know why

Men have come to adore you

As you start rising

Lovers lay sighing

Feeling your warmth

Between their sheets

The treachery of morning

That follows the night

Fades away once you’re in sight

And the world becomes new again

Basking in your splendorous rays

Is where I want to be

To catch even a glimpse of you

Is satisfaction guaranteed

To see you light up a prairie

Where barley glistens gold

I could watch you all day long;

It never gets old…

All I want is to turn as dark

As the dust of the Earth;

Reverse original sin

Return to original birth

Colour me cocoa

As brown as the bean

Turn my face away

From white supremacy

And illumine my mind

Of the labourers’ song;

Loving You Awry

Like lovers passing out

In a romantic trance

We paved the streets of London

In a carefree dance

 

Unperturbed by the world

We mistakenly offend

Driven forward by a force

With which it cannot contend

 

Wherein this snow globe

We are each other’s muses

And paint the sky in flakes of feeling

A love infused only with dreaming

 

Until with my white and frozen

Lips you bade me goodbye

Whilst I continue earnestly now

Loving you awry…

A Beautiful Burden

The light reflects onto your face

And into your searching eyes;

When you look in the mirror

Do you find something you despise?

 

Amidst your wandering gaze

Which hangs heavy with your lashes

Inside I see a soul that carries

A burden your beautiful face matches

 

Might it have been love

That carried me into your arms

Or was it my lack of resistance

For your insatiable charm?

 

The longing to pour into you

My soul whilst resting

My weary head against your shoulder

My feelings for you are unadulterated;

What concern is it that you are older?

 

For in matters of the heart

My single most preoccupation is clear:

To love you unreservedly;

You are my queen and I am your seer

Do not be deceived!

You are your best company;

 

On a winding road

That will carry you home

The only heartbeat you need is your own

 

Or upon a rolling hill

Inclining towards uncertainty

The most exciting adventures

Are solitary still;

There need be no other

To entertain your thrill

 

No woman whose love

You fought so hard to attain

No figure of authority

To nurse you through your pain

 

Only the blinding rain

That pours relentlessly

Through broken clouds

As you wait for Time

 

To uncover its veil

And kiss your broken vows
